LBW History Chapter 3
Chapter 3 of the history of LOOK BOTH WAYS. See below for our promotional glass and the current 7 member band, (tap the band picture to see everyone). In February 2005, my band was complete, we had a drummer, 2 guitars, a bass, keyboards and a female lead singer, (5 guys and 1 girl). All the guys sang lead on at least one song and backup vocals. Now, we needed to build a set list of enough songs to do a 4 hour gig. We had an almost 30 year spread in our ages with Joe and Victoria in their late 20’s, Paul in his late 30’s and Dave, Dan and me in our early 50’s. We had very little band experience, even though we had all been in short lived bands at some point. Since Victoria was our main singer, and married to Joe, she and Joe started putting together a list of songs that Joe and Victoria already new and that they both liked, this helped us to learn the songs quicker. Dave, our bass player, was our lead male vocalist, and by far, had the most experience as a musician. After a couple of months of rehearsals, we knew 13 songs well enough to do a 45 minute, open mic night at the Ironworks, in Green Mountain, our first public appearance as a full band. Before we played our first gig, we needed to have a name for the band, I don’t remember if we had the name before or after the Ironworks open mic, but it was around that time period. I gave the band the task of coming up with a list of potential band names before our next practice. We came up with over 30 names and narrowed it down to three or four and put them to a vote. That night in my kitchen, we chose the name LOOK BOTH WAYS. Some of the other names we considered were, Hijack, Retrofit, Real to Reel, Fast Lane, Look N Back and Vital Signs. Dan, who was in promotional advertising, designed a Logo for us and printed it on over two hundred glasses, (below) that we gave out from time to time at gigs to winners of contests, trivia games or loyal fans. Maybe we should start up some promotions again, what do you think? Stay tuned for chapter 4 coming soon.
